Steps:
1. Pour white wine over the red wine stain, or simply blot stain with a clean cloth or paper towels if no white wine is available.
2. Lift as much liquid as possible when blotting. Do not rub.
3. Sponge the stained area with warm water.
4. Blot dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.
5. Apply carpet shampoo, gently working foam into stain.
6. Rinse with warm water.
7. Repeat until stain is completely lifted.
Tips:
Act immediately. The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove.
If stain persists, apply a solution of equal parts glycerin and warm water. Let sit one hour, sponge with warm water and blot dry.

Truly removes red wine by Stephanie
"Tide with Bleach" works well to remove red wine stains from carpet. However, use very little because it did lighten my carpet just a bit, but it is barely noticeable because my carpet is very light. My thanks to the lady in Albuquerque.

Make up a mixture of 50% liquid detergent and 50% hydrogen peroxide. Rub into stain and leave for a few minutes, then dry off with clean dry cloth. Repeat as needed. I used this and it removed a whole bottle of red wine from a fawn carpet, which I thought was impossible.
