Default what kind of wine goes with pizza?

I want to know what to serve with homemade pizza, pepperoni, mushrooms, etc. Something not to expensive, less than $20/bottle or so, because pizza isn't a fancy meal.

Any wine that you like. There used to be rules with foods and wines, but now it is more on your individual taste. If you like Merlot, then use it, if you like Zinfandel just as well.

You will want a white Pinot Grigio, preferably from Italy. A classic accompaniment to Italian foods like pasta and pizza.

Always try and match a wines origin with the 'nationality' of the dish you are cooking, it works!

Good luck

I would try to find a good inexpensive light to medium bodied Italian red. A Barbera or a Chianti from Italy or a native Sangiovese will fit the bill nicely. In Italy, Chianti is made primarily from sangiovese grapes (pronounced san-gee-o-vee-see). If you happen to be in Texas, you might try to find a bottle of Flat Creek's 2004 Super Texan (a take off of Super Tuscan). It runs about $20 a bottle (not really that inexpensive) and won a double gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition a couple of years ago.

A red wine works well with traditional pizza because the spice and acid in the tomato sauce pairs well with a spicy, tanic red wine.

Find a good wine store and challenge them to help you find an inexpensive yet very good bottle of Chianti; say something around $10 to $15.

Chianti would be my first choice but I like all kinds of wine and I am happy with just about any good red wine. Pick your favorite red and give it a whirl.
