Hot Mulled Wine
Ingredients :
1 x and 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 x lemon, sliced
3 stk cinnamon
3 whl cloves
1 lrg bottle of California red dinner wine
Nutmeg

Method :
Combine boiling water, sugar, lemon, cinnamon and cloves. Stir until sugar dissolves. Add wine, and simmer 20 minutes. (Do not boil). Strain. Serve hot with a sprinkling of nutmeg. I use a Crockpot to do the final stage. This is also good warmed up the second day, if it lasts that long.

  1. Step 1
Pour the wine into a nonreactive saucepan and place over low heat.
  2. Step 2
Cut the zest off half an orange with a sharor vegetable peeler so that only the orange part is removed. If some of the bitter white pith is still attached to the zest, cut it off and discard it.
  3. Step 3
Lightly pound the pieces of zest with the back of a knife or a mallet to release the aromatic oils. Add the zest to the wine. Squeeze some juice in, too.
  4. Step 4
    Add the remaining ingredients.
  5. Step 5
Stir occasionally. Do not let the wine come to a boil.
  6. Step 6
When the wine begins to steam and is very hot, it is ready to serve.
  7. Step 7
Shut off the heat and ladle the wine out into mugs or glasses, leaving the seasonings behind.

I just have found this one in one of my wine recipe books....
