New and confused

I'm new to wine, thanks to my girlfriend. I like drinking it, but she drags me to all these little get togethers with her friends and their boy friends that know this and that about wine. I know about beer, but am totally clueless about wine. I've done some searching for materials on wine on sites like amazon but I'm not to impressed with what's available, it's all too much. Any body with any suggested reading? I found a site using google, www.pocketsommelier.blogspot.com, and it offers what seems to be a pretty simple product. Has anybody read this book?
