The above answer is quite correct, but additionally it has to do with oxidation. Just as a red wine spill might leave stains from blue to red to purple after it dries.

So does not! Maybe a certain red wine you drank was poisoned or your mouth has a "blue" reaction to red wine. So....what does white wine turn your mouth's color into? Purple? LOL

Red wine can make your tongue and lips blue (if you drink enough of it!). There are blue pigments in red wine. This can be demonstrated by leaving a few drops of red wine in a glass and leaving it overnight. In the morning, if you fill the glass with water the water will turn from blue.

The colour pigments in wine are called anthocyanins. These drop out over a long period of time (decades) and cause red wine to change from purple to red to brown. A younger wine will be more purple, and therefore more likely to turn your mouth blue!
