Definitely go with white. Riesling is a good white wine for someone just starting out, a little on the sweet side.

Pinot Grigio is a good, all purpose wine. I also like Savignon Blanc.

Stay away from Chardonnay, it leave a somewhat bitter after taste in your mouth.

Try lighter whites like a Chenin Blanc or a Riesling. They are not too dry and definitely not sweet.

Riesling is considered to be the true monarch of white grapes and produces some absolute gems. Chenin Blanc is slighly oily with a nice dry essence to it.

A lot of the new world wines are now being produced with screwtop closures, which will help toweards your glass a day programme.

If you go for rose try and find a Spanish from the region of Navarra, they are renowned for their rose wines, or Geoff Merrill Grenache Rose from Oz. The man has a moustache that is a mullet all in its own right.

Enjoy

I think that red is the way to go. However, if you do not like red, try a nice, light, fruity white, like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.

Since you don't want red wine. I would suggest the white wine because it is much healthy and delicious.

I like Champagne. It's bubbly and gives you a buzz more quickly.

I like white wines. My favorites are:

Yellowtail Chardonnay
White Truck, Pinot Grigio
Barefoot, Pinot Grigio
These are very in expensive too.

Any dry Champagne is my favorite and I don't know the names.
